Tell us about yourself and your role at Core?
Hi, I’m Helen, Yorkshire born but not bred, then found my way back up here during uni and stayed! I’m a project manager for The Creative Core, and have worked in the construction industry for many years, involved across both design and project management.
How did you first get involved in the industry and what led you to Core?
I became an interior designer around 15 years ago, I always found project management went hand-in-hand with this and loved to see a project all the way through to the end. I had the opportunity to freelance for Core as a project manager last summer and I enjoyed it so much I asked to stay.
What would you say you most enjoy about working at Core?
Every project is unique, both in design and client team, so no two days are the same, which is great.
Highlights or favourite projects from your time at Core?
This is a tough one - so far, I would have to say being involved with Dippy on Tour in the UK. I've learnt a lot of fascinating dino facts, and spent time with members of the Natural History Museum team. I can’t wait for Dippy to arrive in Rochdale in two weeks' time!
What does a typical day’s work look like for you?
Working with our clients, the project designers, and other members of the Core team. Spreadsheets, lots of emails, number crunching, problem solving, planning.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I have a busy home life with my family, but when I am not taxi driver to two boys, I love films, live music and painting.
What would be your ultimate historical time travel destination and why?
I would love to travel to Edwardian Britain, London specifically. I grew up loving films like My Fair Lady, and Mary Poppins and have held on to a romantic view of that time.
What projects are you working on at the moment?
Dippy on Tour Rochdale, Derby Silk Mill Museum of Making, Archive - Wigan & Leigh, the Greater Manchester Fire Service Museum. Plus a new project we’ve just been awarded (more news on this soon) which I am very excited about!
