As part of our ongoing work at Derby Silk Mill, we are supporting the project’s social value aspirations through a student design project. We recently met with Thomas Neuhaus, Programme Leader at the University of Derby to discuss this exciting opportunity for 2nd year degree students. The project will see students design a series of graphic panels to cover a section of the hoards around the re-development site of the Derby Silk Mill.
Students from the Design and History departments will work together to produce the panels which will be titled, Makers of the Past Linked to Makers of Today. The content and design will explore objects from the museum's collection and the history associated with Derby and the Silk Mill. The student panels will be available to view early 2019.
Derby's stunning Silk Mill building stands on the site of the world's first factory and is part of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. The Silk Mill is undergoing a process of significant development to create Derby Silk Mill – Museum of Making, for which The Creative Core are designing and creating the interpretive displays. The museum is due to open in summer 2020.
