The new year has started with the brilliant news that the Harris Museum and Art Gallery in Preston has successfully been awarded a development grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund for it's exciting project "Re-Imagining the Harris". The Grade-1 listed Neo-Classical building is an icon at the heart of Preston's cultural city life, but at more than 125 years old, significant investment is now required to carry out renovation work to the historic fabric of the building and re-interpret the incredible collections for modern audiences.
The Creative Core woked alongside Purcell architects and supported the Harris and council teams with interpretation planning and exhibition design concepts for the first stage HLF application. The awarded development grant of £180,900 will help to progress plans for the £4.7m bid, which, if successful will support the overall £10.7m project.
The ambition of Re-Imagining the Harris is to create the museum's first blended museum, art gallery and library in the UK. Find out more about the project and the #HarrisYourPlace fundraising campaign here.
