Doncaster Careers Workshop
Last week I took part in a workshop for an upcoming exhibition with Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery, called Danensians. School children of Hall Cross Academy are currently researching names from the school’s War Memorial to create personal profiles which will either be exhibited in a travelling exhibition, a leaflet sent in a care package to Soldiers or in an app.
Other guest speakers at this workshop included project staff from Royal Armouries and Leeds Museums. Topics included how to research a subject, how to organise research with content hierarchy, what makes good interpretation and what makes good design. All of the speakers, including myself, also spoke about our career journeys to hopefully inspire some of the students to take up careers within the heritage sector. One student was particularly interested in a career in graphic design, so we discussed the various routes she could take and some alternatives to going to University full time. I really hope that I inspired some of the group to take up and pursue careers in Heritage - I love my job and want others to get the same enjoyment out of their careers as I do mine!
