Waterloo 200: Wellington Arch

The Creative Core created the interpretation at Wellington Arch to elaborate on the story of the Battle of Waterloo. The design of the main exhibition space is reminiscent of a battle tent, focusing on a central campaign table which features a projected strategy map and film to evoke a sense of drama and anticipation for the visitor.

Canvas adorns the walls, holding the interpretive content. The visible walls and ceiling are painted a dark blue-grey to create an intense and intimate atmosphere. The upstairs gallery, exploring the legacy of Wellington and Waterloo, is more open and is somewhat lighter in feel. There is something for all the family to enjoy here, in a robust and engaging experience.

Very valuable (and heavy!) artefacts included an array of 18th century English and French weaponry, arranged as though still poised in battle, along with Wellington’s own boots and sword.
