The Creative Core worked in collaboration with the Shetland Amenity Trust, the RSPB, Shetland Museum, Northern Lighthouse Board and HLF to tell the complex stories of Shetland’s marine life in an exciting, engaging and accessible way.
The Creative Core along with the client team were keen to create an interactive and immersive visitor environment that allows layered interpretation to provide visitor choice.
Designs were created to spark the imagination of visitors of all ages and include an innovative, interactive twelve-metre glass wall which uses 50 hexagonal lightboxes to demonstrate the variety of underwater life surrounding the site. Activated by and reacting to visitor movement, the wall creates an impressive and impactful underwater experience.
Animation is used to communicate potentially complex scientific principles such as phytoplankton life cycles and apex predator food webs, whilst images of seabirds and extraordinary life-size models of an Orca and a Minke whale provide unexpected audio triggered by PIR sensors.
