Promoting the stories of the Princes of Gwynedd, this bi-lingual project encourages visitors to explore other sites within the region. The project began with a gateway exhibition at Conwy TIC, followed by small hub exhibitions at Betws y Coed, Criccieth and Caernarfon.
All interpretation was bilingual, including exhibitions, website, graphics, interactive map and leaflets. English translations of the traditional Welsh song lyrics were provided in written format. Our interpretation and design team liaised with Welsh linguists to ensure that the text was not just a literal translation but used the idioms of the Welsh language.
Within the main gateway hub, a traditional exhibition focuses on the history and geography whilst a projected, map animation gives visitors a two-minute introduction into the Welsh language, encouraging exploration of the landscape, and providing insight into life in medieval Wales. A second area provides a contrasting immersive experience, focusing on Welsh culture, medieval poetry and music.
