The Creative Core was appointed to create a brand new exhibition in this historic space where keepers and their families lived whilst the light was manned.
Telling 500 years of history, the Dark & Light exhibition was designed to appeal to family audiences. An immersive, darkened area behind closed ‘boat sail’ doors, transports the visitor to a ship on a rough sea. A disorientating soundtrack enables the voyager to experience the drama and challenge of being lost at sea during a storm. Personal lighthouse objects are displayed in a 1950s environment, cleverly utilising the space of a former fireplace.
Right at the start, The Creative Core created the story map for the space and assisted with the procurement of images to ensure the story was about more than just lighthouses – Trinity House’s charitable work, information about buoys and lightvessels was included, as well as the history of navigation.
