The new Castle Creatures exhibition at Dudley Castle needed to be engaging for children, hands-on and interactive, uniting the zoo experience with a historical perspective of animals and the castle.
The relationship between man and animal throughout history provides the interpretive glue, offering a unique insight into the evolution of our understanding of the animal world and the development of natural history, from myth to microscope. The Creative Core designed a series of easily recognisable, life-size games. A historical ‘Castle-opoly’ floor game tells the varied and exciting history of the castle, whilst a giant Snakes and Ladders game reinforces the zoo’s work supporting conservation and breeding programmes worldwide.
The Creative Core also created a digital game that explores the fascinating link between medieval bestiary concepts of ‘blended’ creatures such as the half man, half bull Minotaur and Mendelian techniques of genetic engineering and gene mixing. The results of the GENESPLICER are both fascinating and hilarious!
